Judges
The first round will be judged by published and unpublished authors
using a simple 10 question score sheet. (Download
a Sample Scoresheet here in PDF format). Authors may choose
whether they want to have their score sheets and entries returned
to them. Five (5) finalists will advance to the final round.
Final round judging will be conducted by a panel of industry
professionals, to include:
- Scott Eagen, Greyhaus Literary Agency
- Lois Winston, Ashley Grayson Literary Agency
- Patience Smith, Harlequin
- Latoya Smith, Grand Central Publishing
- TBA, Reviewer
Scores given by each final round judge will be totaled to determine
winner placements.
Eligibility
Open to authors published in fiction works of 25,000 words or
greater.
Categories
There are no categories. All entries will be judged together
and scored based upon their individual merit.

Entry Procedure
Please note: FTHRW is
an online chapter. This contest is being held electronically.
Submissions, entry forms and scores/comments will be handled via
email. However, if you prefer to pay your entry fee by check instead
of Paypal, that option is available. (Please PRINT a copy of the
electronic entry form to enclose with your check).
- Submit an electronic entry form and a PayPal payment

Submit an electronic entry form and check/money order
to the CONTEST COORDINATOR (see address in coordinator section
below). *** PLEASE PRINT A COPY OF YOUR
ELECTRONIC ENTRY FORM TO ENCLOSE WITH YOUR CHECK before
you click the Submit button, so the coordinator can easily match
your payment to your entry.***
- The electronic entry form and payment should precede
the receipt of the proposal entry.
- Enter via email a proposal (up to 55 pages comprised of the opening chapters of a manuscript and a comprehensive synopsis) of an unpublished/uncontracted
work of fiction, all genres and subgenres are welcome. Most
entries will have romance as their theme, but mainstream entries
with a romantic subplot, including young adult, are welcome.
Authors are allowed to enter a proposal for a genre in which
they are published.
- You may enter as many times as you wish. Subsequent entries
from the same author receive a lower entry fee.

For all RWA Members who would like to also join FTHRW, you can
send $35 for membership and the contest at the same time. That's
$20 membership fee + $15 contest fee = $35.

If you have entered a book into The
Lories Best Published Contest, you may enter as many proposals
as you like into The Lories Best Proposal contest and deduct
$5 from the "First Proposal Entered" fee
for each entry (e.g. If you are an RWA member who entered
the Lories Best Published, you pay only $15 to enter a proposal
into The Lories Best Proposal contest!)

Entry Details/Checklist
Entries will be accepted in electronic format only (MSWord
format (.DOC) or rich text format (.RTF)). If you have problems
sending electronically, the coordinator will do her best to assist
you.
Each electronic entry should include:

each entry to FTHBOD@yahoo.com (a button to process the
Paypal payment will appear on the confirmation screen after you
submit the Electronic Entry form.)

Writers" for the applicable entry fee for each entry, along
with a copy of your entry form, to Contest Coordinator address
below.

- Please use standard manuscript format for your entry.
- Double spaced, approximately 25 lines per page
- 1" margins all around
- standard 12-pt font such as Courier or Times New Roman
- Title/genre in the upper left of the header
- Page Number in the upper right of the header
- DO NOT put your name anywhere on the proposal

_____ You will receive a confirmation of the arrival of your
entry. If you do not get a confirmation within three (3) days of sending,
please e-mail the contest coordinator at lories-proposal @ fthrw.com
to ask if it was received.
Note: If the above rules aren't met, the entry may be disqualified
and entry fee may not be refunded.

Notification
Finalists will be notified around April 23, 2010. The Lories Best Proposal Winner will be notified on or around June 20, 2010.

Awards
The first place winner will receive a 1/3 page ad in the RWR
issue of their choice to promote the book of their choice. The
winner will be responsible for reserving the desired ad month
and submitting their ad copy to the RWR. Upon notice of submission
to the RWR by the winner, FTHRW will submit payment for the ad
directly to the RWR office.
Note: Should the winner choose not to submit an ad to the
RWR, an alternate cash prize of $100 will be awarded. In the event
30 or more contest entries are received, ad space for the first
place winner will be expanded to a 1/2 page; however, the alternative
cash prize amount will not increase.
In the event more than 15 entries are received, the second place
winner will receive a 1/6 page ad in the RWR issue of their choice,
with the same parameters as the first place winner, aside from
the cash-prize value. An alternate cash prize of $50 will be awarded,
should the second place winner choose not to submit an ad to the
RWR. If less than 15 entries are received, no second place winner
RWR ad payment or alternate cash prize will be awarded.
All finalists will receive an e-logo celebrating their finalist/winner
status for placement on their website and/or for marketing purposes.
Additionally, all finalists will receive an electronic finalist/winner
certificate.
