Hi Betsy-

I came up with this finally. Let me know what you think.

Heroine:

Outer Goal: Wants to become a canine search and rescue handler.

Inner Goal: she wants to feel she makes a difference (find her purpose/self-actualization)

Motivation: presents a proactive way of doing something to make the world a better place. She wants to make a difference in other peoples’ lives, and after watching a movie when she was younger she fell in love with the idea of being a K-9 handler, which only grew after watching the canines work during 9/11.

External Conflict: Penelope is in VT to test for her canine handler certification but when she accidentally burns down a ranger building she is forced to help rebuild it, and the ranger who will be supervising is the same ranger who arrested her. And the same man who is her evaluator for the canine test.

Internal Conflict: She doesn’t feel needed. She feels like a nuisance. She feels her life doesn’t make a difference/ that she’s unimportant.

Hero:

Outer Goal: Wants to implement a GPS tracking program for hunters for the upcoming hunting season

Inner Goal: Wants to keep park patrons and townspeople safe, his self-worth is to do whatever he can to protect those under his care from harm.

Motivation: When he got lost with his grandmother when he was younger at a state park in NY, a Park Ranger and a Search and Rescue handler with canine rescued them. He’s also been on rescue missions himself and has saved people. He also wants to implement the GPS program bc after his canine partner died (a life under his care he failed to protect) as he no longer wants to work with a canine.

External Conflict: Ideas would be he is forced to work with heroine who brings along her canine partner. Also thought that with her burning down the building it would pull away funds for his project as some of those funds have to be reallocated to the rebuild and now there isn’t enough money for it.

Internal Conflict: He doesn’t want to fall in love with a canine handler, nor another dog. Being around a dog again will cause him emotional anguish and is a reminder of his failure to protect his partner. Plus, harboring ill feelings toward a woman bc she unintentionally sabotaged his project that he believes would help save people.
