I think having her grandfather have regrets on his deathbed is a better motivator, especially if she was really close to him. What type of job does she have? That could also make her more aware of the fact that she’s not making a difference.
Is this type of training/certification expensive? Maybe she’s stretched financially to do this and if she fails at it she’ll have to save for a long time to be able to try again. Or she loses her job because she has to extend her stay in VT to deal with the fallout from the accidental fire. So she’s got to be successful at this after putting so much on the line for it.
