Great topic, LeAnne!
Before I start writing, I plot the novel using a outline I’ll attach. The plot details invariably change as I write, but this outline is a good foundation for me. (I pantsered my way into too many dead ends before I forced myself to try and plot. I tried different plotting systems, and this one works best for me. Its name escapes me right now, but it’ll circle round the sun and come back to me. Cheryl uses it.)
I plot individual scenes using CS Laken’s 4 Scene Essentials:
#1. Purpose of the chapter. #2. Key moment your chapter is going to build toward. #3. Inner and outer conflict and what it will accomplish. #4. How Your Character Changes by the End. How it advances the plot and/or complicates things.
