AMENDED SECRETARY REPORT
The April 2019 Chapter meeting was called to order by President Cheryl P. Rider on April 11 at 2:26 pm.
The first order of business was the approval of the Secretary report. A motion to approve the Secretary report was made by Arel Jansen and seconded by Belle Williams.
Next, President Rider thanked Linda Burrell and Arel Jansen for putting together a great workshop lineup for 2019 and reminded members of upcoming workshops.
President Rider thanked Sherri Shackleford for a fabulous webinar on Kanban boards and reminded members that the chapter will be hosting a fall webinar series beginning in August. Angela Breidenbach will be conducting a webinar for both judges and entrants to the Pages of the Heart Contest that will be open in August. She reminded members that webinars are free and only for members.
Membership dues for new members will be raised to $30, beginning July 1. Renewal fees will remain at $25. President Rider explained the reasons for the price change. 1: to help treasurer distinguish between new members, renewing members and non-members paying for a workshop. Workshop fees will be slightly raised beginning in 2021 as well. President Rider also reminded members that we have a hardship fund, The Heart to Heart fund that is available to members who are struggling with paying fees.
The website committee reports that the website is running smoothly. They are looking at a few options to make things user-friendly. The committee asks members to notify them if they are having any issues with RWA, as the RWA rosters are still experiencing difficulties since the revamping of their website.
There are several private forums that are open to all members of the FTH upon request. The Storm Plotters Forum, Productivity Forum and Critique Group Forum. Information was posted about the benefits of each forum.
President Rider reminded members that the FTHRW loves to celebrate the good news of their chapter members. There is a link on the members only page for submitting your good news.
Next, President Rider asked for feedback regarding social media. Shannon Gallagher pointed out that Twitter isn’t being used as often as Instagram and asked if the chapter had considered opening an Instagram account. President Rider asked for input from members regarding Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter.
The next item on the agenda is the Pages From the Heart Contest. The contest committee at Laura Correa as the communications chair. The contest will be open for entries from Aug. 1 – 31 and open to all unpublished authors and authors who haven’t been published in the genre they are entering in the last 2 years. The committee is looking at prizes to make the contest more valuable to all authors and not just those pursuing the traditional publishing route. Score sheets have been revamped to be friendlier to diverse writers.
With no new business to discuss, President Rider called for a motion to adjourn the meeting. LeAnne Bristow made a motion to adjourn and Arel Jansen seconded the motion.
The April 2019 Chapter Meeting was adjourned on April 17, 2019 at 1:42 am.
