Strong Sensation: silken sheets, drowsy, strange bed, worry-free face of lover, multifaceted hunger Sex/imminent:combo of some of the above, freedom of leave, luxuriating, drowsy, opportunistic, warm attractive (albeit not overly manly) body next to her, super sensory scratching, nuzzling, large bed, silky sheets, desire.
Hi Joanna, Definitely strong sensations and, in combo with the sexual aspect of the opening, not a surprise, eh? The two are often a one-two punch. Now, not all sensory openings are sexual…. 😉
Action/Travel/Character’s thoughts: Nice narration of his amble and mindset, combined with the setting.
Anecdotal: when he steps on Sherlock Holmes who he initially mistakes as a tramp and then deciphers from his manner of speaking to be well educated. Also is author’s role in being somewhat clueless and lost in his reading.
In the Sherlock Holmes selection, the narrator is actually a she, a teenaged girl. Of course, the reader would know that from the back cover blurb and from the fact that the series is the Mary Russell Holmes series by Laurie R King.
And definitely, a sense of ambling and of the character’s mindset. Very different from many contemporary fiction, even though it’s recently written. King does a great job of providing that “Holmes” feel in time and place.
I typed right into the box this time instead of attaching. Not sure the difference in how it displays. Preference?
