HOMEWORK – Using everything you’ve learned to date: Read the selections uploaded by the students here. Pick (at least) ONE or TWO (do NOT comment on every one or this class will go into 2021…) . ANALYZE: Can you spot the Inciting Incident, the Trigger Set Up, and/or the Hook? Can you spot the fire—or the first flickering of a possible fire—that the MC won’t be able to put out? Is there a clear change happening? If so, what emotions are triggered by this change? Are there any needs hinted at or raised? Any emotional triggers? What suggestions—based on what you’ve learned so far—would you make to the first pages, if any? Or do you find it brain-craving worthy? PLEASE post your replies in THAT student’s homework folder, not as a reply to this lesson or as a new post. Uploading your own work does NOT allow you to skip out on commenting on others’ openings. Upload yours. Comment on theirs.
We have some wonderful opening scenes being posted, kids. Let’s put our thinking caps on and post helpful insights, based on all you’ve learned to date. Ask questions of these terrific writers about their opening scenes… make suggestions… post your reactions in their homework folders!
PS Please make sure you’re subscribed to all homework folders, not just your own. 🙂
