“That’s where you’re wrong.” Neala pointed the tip of her sword toward the trail. “I would die before joining the Viken.”
To me, above is the point in this scene where you could use the regression tactic, because they move from inquiry to conflict. You could try something like:
“As did I.” He cocked his head. “You survived. I survived. We are not so very different.”
“Wrong.” Neala shot back. She pointed the tip of her sword toward the trail. “Joining the Viken? I would die before I did that. Die.”
It’s a subtle shift, but enough to let us see how these two have a lot of water to cross between them.
