Nancy, yes, I was impressed how the medical staff could be so compassionate and involved but without falling apart. I couldn’t do it. And when we were there, she was the only one in the PICU ward who survived. (But she still goes back there every year to celebrate with them– they don’t forget!)
I think it can help to look back at highly emotional experiences and see what surrounds the emotion– the setting, the movements, the conversations. Often the poignance is in the restraint.
