Have a wonderful vacation.
I continue to meet my goal of a minimum of 2 hours per day writing. As I mentioned before, I have a wonderful beta reader/critique partner and I’m working with her on my historical romantic women’s fiction.
I decided to take another look at a contemporary romantic women’s fiction manuscript that I’d “shelved” because I got so many rejections on this one. I just figured it was unsaleable. The last time I looked at it was January, 2019. I was surprised at how good I think it is. So, I’m editing it again.
I think my writing has improved in the last two years because I’m seeing many places were it can be improved. Adding how the characters feel about things that happen, changing phrasing and word order to make place flow better, having the characters notice things in their surroundings and about the other characters they encounter are ways I think I can improve upon the story.
Now that know how to self publish – which I didn’t know how to do in January 2019 – I’m not too concerned whether agents or publishers will show any interest in it. However, I do plan on submitting it to Entangled Press when I finish editing because if they reject it, they will give a detailed review of the manuscript telling what works for them and what doesn’t work. So, I’m hoping they’ll reject it so I will have this review. Then I’ll self publish. I already have a cover designed for this one!
Today, I renewed my membership in FTHRW and since we’ve disaffiliated, I will not be renewing my RWA membership. I am kind of sad about that, because RWA was a wonderful organization. The first couple of years of my membership, I took many wonderful workshops through various RWA chapters, but with the exception of FTHRW and Contemporary Romance Writers (which also disaffiliated), the quality of the workshops has really fallen off. I’m not getting much out of RWA anymore. Sometimes, the Outreach International Romance Writers online chapter and the Kiss of Death chapter have workshops that interest me, but not often. But we can still take workshops through other chapters at a slightly higher rate if we’re not RWA members.
Well, that’s all for now. Happy Holidays, everyone!
