Thanks, Cheryl. I may take you up on that. I took a LWA class on deep revision recently, and I have this checklist that’s like: Is there a scene and sequel, what are the stakes, what are the conflicts, how can I up the tension, etc. I think it’s all necessary and important, but I also think it’s a bit overwhelming. It makes me feel like I don’t know what I don’t know, if that makes sense. I don’t know if it needs more tension. I don’t know if there’s enough conflict, etc.
I finally sat down on Sunday with a printed copy of the chapter where I got stuck, and managed to get through the first scene, and it wasn’t that bad. I kept the things from the checklist in the back of my mind, but didn’t focus on them. I think I just need to decide I’m going to do it and get it done.
